The Indifferent Window is an animated video piece created based on views seen from the window of a moving train. The work traces real recorded footage of passing scenery, transforming selected moments into hand-drawn animation. It is said that the human eye receives approximately 30 to 60 frames of visual information per second. However, not every moment is remembered or consciously perceived. This work draws attention to those "unselected moments"—the fragments of time that slip past our awareness. The moments not depicted in the animation were extracted from the video and reinterpreted as 40 individual glass works. Each piece captures an instant that truly occurred before our eyes, yet escaped our notice. By fusing these unseen moments into the fragile, peelable surface of glass, the works evoke a quiet presence—like memories suspended between forgetting and recording.

The video work is sold separately. The Indifferent Window is an animation work based on scenery viewed from a train window. It was created by tracing over actual video footage of passing landscapes as seen through the window. It is said that the human eye captures approximately 30 to 60 frames per second. While animation traditionally reflects these “selected moments,” this work also focuses on the “unselected moments” — the fragments not consciously registered. These unseen instances are extracted from the footage and transformed into 40 individual glass pieces. Each piece captures a fleeting moment—something that undoubtedly occurred before our eyes, yet slipped past perception. These moments are burned onto delicate, fragile glass, a material that itself embodies ephemerality. You will receive one piece selected from the 40, each representing a different moment. Due to the nature of the material, the printed surface is delicate and may peel or fade over time. We hope you will embrace this transience as part of the artwork's character. If you wish to preserve the piece in its current state, we recommend framing or other protective measures. I usually throw them away, burn them, or scatter them in the garden, but I suddenly thought that they might have the same value and meaning as the pieces that form the work. Once in the forest, the pieces of wood that were cut and scattered have arrived here after a long period of time. I try to wrap a small piece of wood chip with care. I display it as if it were precious. I open it from time to time to remember today. OKI KENICHI creates abstract paintings that express thoughts through the deformation of human figures, and artworks based on transforming the alphabet into unique shapes. He also produces sculptures and installations combining these two approaches.
In 2014, he moved to New York and was selected as a participating artist in the Bushwick Open Studios. Since then, his activities have continued not only in Japan but also internationally. Additionally, he has designed numerous collaborative items with apparel brands and musicians.
